KARACHI: Pakistan are struggling at 104/3 while chasing New Zealand’s 321-run target in the Champions Trophy opener at National Stadium, Karachi.
Captain Rizwan fell for 3, while Saud Shakeel managed only 6 runs. Fakhar Zaman made 24 runs.
Will O’Rourke took two wickets.
Earlier, Pakistan opted to bowl first after winning the toss. New Zealand struggled early, losing three wickets for 73 runs, but a 118-run stand for the fourth wicket steadied their innings.
Latham and Phillips further strengthened the total with a 125-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Centuries from Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118) powered New Zealand to 320/5, while Glenn Phillips contributed a quickfire 61.
For Pakistan, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf claimed two wickets each, while Abrar Ahmed took one.
Pakistan made one change from their last playing XI in the tri-nation series final, bringing in Haris Rauf for Faheem Ashraf.
New Zealand also made a change, with Matt Henry replacing Jacob Duffy in the lineup, as confirmed by Mitchell Santner.
The event, regarded as second only to the World Cup in the one-day game, runs until March 9 and is the first global cricket tournament hosted by Pakistan in nearly three decades.
