Govt team, IMF begin talks on agricultural income tax

ISLAMABAD: An economic team of government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have started negotiation on agricultural income tax under ongoing economic review of $7 billion loan programme.

The discussions are taking place at the World Bank office while provincial officials, the Ministry of Finance, and members of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) are attending the meeting.

Discussions are also scheduled on amendments to the Sovereign Wealth Funds Act and related regulations.

Officials from the Ministry of Energy and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will engage with the IMF delegation on circular debt and tariff rebasing.

Sources said the negotiations, which began this week, are of critical importance. During this week, the IMF delegation is expected to present new conditions and proposals. If these conditions and proposals are accepted, the next tranche of the loan will be released.
