WWE legend and Hollywood actor John Cena made a rare comment on his marriage to Shay Shariatzadeh during his appearance at the Amazon Upfront red carpet event in New York on May 12.
The 48-year-old, known for his career inside the wrestling ring and more recently on the big screen, was attending the promotional event for his upcoming action-comedy film Heads of State, set to release in cinemas on June 2.
Speaking to E! News, Cena offered a glimpse into his relationship with Shariatzadeh, whom he married in a private ceremony on October 12, 2020. “We try to make a date out of all these things,” he said, referring to public events and premieres. “She’s here and we’re going to have some fun,” he added, smiling.
Cena, who has largely kept his personal life away from the spotlight, appeared relaxed and cheerful as he spoke about his wife and the excitement surrounding his new film.
The Fast & Furious star also shared his admiration for the cast of Heads of State, which features prominent names including Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra, and Jack Quaid.
“A great cast is always great, ’cause you’re only as good as the person you’re dancing with,” he said. “We’ve got good professionals in a good environment, where they can be their best. We’ve got great stunts, great action pieces.”
Heads of State marks another step in Cena’s transition from professional wrestling to mainstream cinema. The film blends high-octane action with comedy and boasts a diverse and star-studded ensemble.
With the film’s theatrical release just weeks away, fans can expect to see Cena not only showcasing his action skills but also celebrating the milestone with his wife by his side.
