Skills development camp for national cricketers kicks off in Lahore

A skills development camp for national cricketers commenced in Lahore on Monday with several prominent players, including Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, taking part in training activities aimed at improving fitness and performance.

The camp, being held at the LCCA Ground under the supervision of National Cricket Academy (NCA) coaches, will be conducted in three phases. The first phase features 15 players, with the focus on enhancing fielding, batting and overall fitness.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the morning session began with fielding drills, where Babar and Rizwan were actively involved. Batting coach Hanif Malik, alongside NCA coaches, supervised batting practice sessions designed to refine technique and shot selection.

Players also took part in gym work to improve their physical conditioning. A PCB spokesperson said the aim of the camp is to enhance individual skill levels and prepare the cricketers for upcoming domestic and international commitments.

The players attending the first phase include Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Babar Azam, Hassan Nawaz, Moaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Aamir Jamal, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza and Sufyan Muqeem.

The second and third phases of the camp are scheduled to begin on June 23 and June 30 respectively, with further players expected to join in the coming weeks.

Officials said the programme is part of the PCB’s long-term strategy to strengthen the national talent pool through consistent skill-based training and fitness management.
