PM launches nationwide youth IT training drive

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review ongoing and upcoming IT training programs for youth, issuing directives to transform Pakistan into a regional IT powerhouse by equipping the younger generation with world-class digital skills.

Emphasizing the importance of a modern and sustainable ICT ecosystem, the prime minister said, “Our youth are Pakistan’s most valuable asset. We must empower them through advanced IT education so they can secure meaningful employment and contribute to the national economy.”

During the meeting, attended by federal ministers Ahad Cheema, Shaza Fatima, Rana Mashhood, and HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, the PM outlined a comprehensive strategy to revamp IT training across the country.

Key directives from PM:

  • Modern IT training to be introduced at schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Collaboration between the Ministry of IT, Ministry of Education, HEC, and NAVTTC/Neotech to ensure streamlined implementation.
  • Launch of summer IT camps during school vacations to engage students productively.
  • Clear rules, regulations, and timelines to be defined for each training module.
  • Training programs must meet international standards and align with market demand, enabling local companies to compete globally and earn foreign exchange.

PM Sharif said that by producing a skilled IT workforce, Pakistan can meet global outsourcing needs, attracting investment and enhancing exports in the technology sector.

“Our goal is to prepare youth for the digital future and make Pakistan the IT hub of the region,” Shehbaz stated, urging all relevant departments to ensure timely and effective execution of the proposed initiatives.
