Netanyahu takes U-turn on regime change goal in Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel no longer seeks regime change in Iran, clarifying that toppling the Iranian government is not among Israel’s objectives.

In an interview with Israeli media, Netanyahu emphasized, “Our primary goal is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.” He added that “halting Iran’s missile program is our second objective.”

He reiterated that while Israel remains vigilant about Iran’s military ambitions, “regime change in Iran is not part of our agenda.”

The remarks reflect a shift in Israel’s stance, focusing on containment rather than direct political intervention in Iran.
