China rejects Indian remarks on Dalai Lama ‘reincarnation’, calls it internal matter

China has strongly opposed recent remarks made by an Indian official regarding the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said that the issue of the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation is purely an internal affair of China.

In a statement on social media, Xu Feihong emphasized that Xizang (Tibet) is an inalienable part of China and that Tibetan Buddhism originated and developed within China, particularly in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. He stressed that the conferment of religious titles, including that of the Dalai Lama, falls under the exclusive authority of the central government of China.

The ambassador warned that no overseas organizations or individuals would be allowed to interfere in or influence the reincarnation process.

He said China strictly follows its laws in managing the reincarnation of Living Buddhas, including the Dalai Lama, and fully upholds the principles of independence and self-governance in religious affairs.
