Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Her Highness Sheikha Asma Al Thani of Qatar as Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism, following her successful summit of the formidable Nanga Parbat.
Congratulating her via social media platform X on Tuesday, the prime minister expressed pride in her achievement, calling it both inspirational and a symbol of resilience.
“It gives me great pleasure to appoint Her Highness Sheikha Asma Al Thani as Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism,” wrote PM Shehbaz.
“Heartfelt congratulations on your successful ascent of Nanga Parbat. This remarkable feat is truly moving and inspiring.”
The prime minister said that her success is a message of courage and determination, as well as a testament to the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Qatar.
In a heartfelt post, Sheikha Asma expressed her gratitude and reflected on her climb: “Alhamdulillah – Nanga Parbat. My ninth 8000+ metre mountain and one of the most difficult ascents I’ve ever attempted.
This mountain tested me in every imaginable way — black ice beneath my feet and rocks falling every few moments. It constantly reminded me how fragile life is.
But within that fear, there was growth. There was surrender. And there was strength I didn’t know I had.
I don’t climb mountains just to reach the summits. I climb to return to what truly matters — to reconnect with myself away from the noise. This mountain will stay with me forever.”
Conquering ‘Killer Mountain’
Sheikha Asma Al Thani, a member of the Qatari royal family, successfully scaled Nanga Parbat — one of Pakistan’s highest and most dangerous peaks, standing at 8,126 metres.
Known as the “Killer Mountain” due to its treacherous terrain and extreme weather, Nanga Parbat is among the deadliest in the world for climbers.
Sheikha Asma’s achievement not only underscores her personal resilience but also highlights the growing bond between Pakistan and Qatar through shared appreciation of adventure and natural beauty.
