Young Pakistani actress Aina Asif has candidly shared her experience of facing online criticism, admitting that she often breaks down in tears after reading negative comments.
In a recent interview, the 16-year-old actor reflected on the challenges of growing up in the public eye. “Being a public figure, you have to be prepared for criticism,” she said, while adding that trolling and harsh remarks still take a toll on her mental wellbeing.
Asif began her career as a child model, appearing in television commercials before making her acting debut in 2021 in the drama serial Pehli Si Mohabbat.
She later rose to prominence with roles in Hum Tum, Panjara, and Mayi Ri, in which she portrayed the lead character Qurat-ul-Ain “Ani” Habib. She is currently starring in the drama serial Parursh.
Recalling her journey, Asif said she was only 14 years old when she worked in Mayi Ri, and is now 16 while playing a more mature role in Parwarish.
However, she noted that many social media users question her age, alleging that she is concealing her real age.
“The trolling really affects me,” she admitted. “I accept positive criticism, but sometimes I cry after reading the negative comments.”
The young actor further revealed that she is often compared to cartoon characters and targeted for her appearance.
“People mock how I look, as if being an actress means I must fit into their narrow standards of beauty,” she said. “But acting is about talent. You cannot change your looks, and I don’t think it’s fair to be judged for that.”
Despite the challenges, Asif remains committed to her craft and believes she is growing as an actor. “I’m trying to improve with time,” she said. “But at the same time, I wish people were a little more kind.”
