Pakistan, Bangladesh agree to visa-free entry for diplomatic, official passports

DHAKA: Pakistan and Bangladesh have reached a principled agreement to allow visa-free entry for holders of diplomatic and official passports. The two nations have also established a joint committee to enhance bilateral relations.

The decision was made during a meeting in Dhaka between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. Naqvi received a warm welcome at the Interior Ministry, including a guard of honor.

During the meeting, both ministers discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation. They agreed to strengthen collaboration in internal security and police training.

A joint committee was established to oversee future cooperation, with Pakistan’s Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha appointed as its head. A high-level Bangladeshi delegation will soon visit Islamabad to study Pakistan’s Safe City Project and National Police Academy.

The two sides also explored increased cooperation on counter-narcotics and anti-human trafficking efforts and discussed joint strategies for counterterrorism. The ministers agreed on mutual exchanges in police training programs.

Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam expressed heartfelt welcome, calling Naqvi’s visit vital for strengthening ties. He thanked Naqvi for offering police training collaboration.

Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Interior Khuda Bakhsh, Interior Secretary Nasim-ul-Ghani, Additional Secretary Security Division Shamim Khan, Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires Muhammad Wasif, and Political Counsellor Kamran Dongal were also present at the meeting.
