WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has announced the imposition of tariffs ranging from 15 percent to 50 percent on various countries.
Speaking at the AI (artificial intelligence) Summit, he stated that the US was engaged in serious negotiations with the European Union, was close to making a deal with China, and has reached an agreement with Japan to reduce tariffs to 15% through negotiations.
Tariffs would be reduced for countries doing business in the United States, he added.
Trump said that he aimed to bring oil prices down and was entering into energy agreements with various Asian countries.
Regarding a deal between the US and NATO, he said that under the agreement, European allies would purchase weapons and sent them to Ukraine. They would pay 100 percent cost of military equipment to the United States, he continued.
The president asserted that the US has initiated the race in artificial intelligence and would emerge victorious, claiming that America was defeating China in AI.
During the summit, President Trump signed three executive orders.
