PTI’s Hammad Azhar to surrender after 2 years in hiding

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) former federal minister Hammad Azhar has decided to surrender and appear before the court after more than two years in hiding, according to party sources.

The development follows the recent passing of his father, senior politician and former minister Mian Muhammad Azhar.

Sources confirm that Hammad Azhar has completed consultations with his close aides and summoned his legal team for final discussions. He is expected to appear before the court soon and apply for bail in multiple cases registered against him.

Azhar has been facing legal pressure, with more than 70 cases reportedly registered against him since the crackdown on PTI leaders began following the May 9, 2023 events and other political developments.

Hammad breaks silence

Breaking his long silence, Hammad Azhar also posted an emotional message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing his grief and explaining the reasons for his decision.

“I am the only son of my parents, the brother of three sisters, and the father of two minor children,” he wrote. “For more than two years, my family endured more pain and suffering than I did. I now want to be with them, especially my mother, in this hour of sorrow.”

Azhar maintained his innocence, stating that he has been falsely implicated using “fake cases” and that he will seek justice through legal channels.

“I will approach the court and seek justice. If justice is given, I will thank Allah, and if not, I will endure more oppression. Undoubtedly, Allah is the supporter of the patient,” he added.
