PTA cautions public against fake courier messages

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) cautions the public against fraudulent messages impersonating courier services, in which users are asked to enter verification codes.

“Do not share any codes received via SMS or messaging apps, as these may be used for unauthorised access. Legitimate courier companies do not require recipients to input codes for parcel delivery,” said a news release.

PTA remains committed to protecting consumers from digital fraud and urges the public to verify the authenticity of such messages before responding, it said.

The authority clarified that genuine courier companies do not require customers to input such codes to receive their parcels.

The PTA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumers from online fraud and advised the public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of such messages before taking any action.

Similarly, banks also advise customers never to share OTP codes with anyone claiming to represent their bank or the central bank.
