Fate forces India to face Pakistan in WCL semis after group-stage boycott

BIRMINGHAM: In the World Championship of Legends 2025, the Indian Legends team, which refused to play against Pakistan in the group stage, will now face the Green Shirts in the semifinal.

The Indian Champions secured their spot in the semifinals after defeating the West Indies Champions in a crucial match in England. Earlier, on Tuesday, the Pakistan Champions dominated the Australia Champions, winning by 10 wickets to secure the top spot on the points table. With Australia and South Africa already qualified, India’s victory finalized the semifinal lineup.

The first semifinal is now set for 31 July, where table-toppers Pakistan will face India, while South Africa and Australia will clash in the second semifinal the same day.

It is worth noting that in the first stage of the tournament, the Pakistan-India clash was canceled after Indian players refused to play. Reportedly, some Indian cricketers, including Shikhar Dhawan, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, and Harbhajan Singh, objected to playing against Pakistan, allegedly demanding that Shahid Afridi be excluded from the lineup.

The tournament organizers had expressed regret over the cancellation, but now all eyes are on whether the Indian team will honor the semifinal fixture or boycott once again.
