Hina Bayat reflects on side-effects of mobile phones

Veteran actress Hina Khawaja Bayat has expressed concern over the way people often intrude into celebrities’ personal lives.

Appearing on Dunya TV Programme Mazaq Raat, she emphasised that such behaviour is unfair, noting that actors are human too and can be affected by harsh criticism.

While she welcomed constructive feedback about her work, she urged the public to avoid making personal attacks.

She also commented on the isolating effect of mobile phones, observing how technology has distanced people from real-life connections.

“You’ll see four people sitting together, each lost in their own phone. They don’t talk — they text each other instead,” she said.

Hina stressed that while mobile phones are useful, they shouldn’t dominate our lives, warning that excessive use can become almost like an illness.

Sharing her thoughts on changing family dynamics, Hina reminisced about a time when guests were greeted with warmth and hospitality.

In her household, she recalled, guests were always welcomed with open arms and their comfort was given priority. Sadly, she noted, those traditions have largely faded.

Nowadays, she said, unexpected guests are often seen as a disruption — with concerns about children’s studies or daily routines taking precedence.

She revealed that acting was never part of her original plan. During her college days, she received offers to appear in advertisements, but her father disapproved. It was only later, at the encouragement of Sultana Siddiqui, that she agreed to act in a drama — a decision that ultimately launched her career in the entertainment industry.
