Soldier martyred, three injured in drone attack on FC checkpost in Bannu

BANNU: A quadcopter drone attack targeted a Frontier Corps (FC) checkpost in the Takhti Khel Bakakhel area of Bannu, resulting in the martyrdom of one FC soldier and injuring three others. The injured personnel were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital.

In response, the FC and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police launched a coordinated search operation, while imposing an indefinite curfew in the neighboring Havid area under orders from DPO Saleem Abbas Kulachi. Residents were instructed to remain at home from 5 a.m. onwards. Officials warned that anyone found aiding or sheltering militants would face strict legal consequences.

This incident underscores a rising trend in militant use of drone technology in southern KP. These attacks frequently utilize commercially available quadcopters carrying improvised explosive devices. According to Reuters, militants have launched at least eight such drone attacks in the past 2.5 months in Bannu and its surroundings, posing a serious security threat.

Curfew imposed in Bannu

Meanwhile, authorities imposed an indefinite curfew in Bannu’s Havid area as security forces launch a large-scale operation against terrorists.

According to DPO Saleem Abbas Kulachi, the operation was initiated following intelligence confirming the presence of armed militants.

Residents have been ordered to stay indoors from 5am until further notice.

The DPO also warned that anyone found aiding or harboring terrorists will face severe legal action.
