Domestic cricket season to begin with Hanif Mohammad Trophy

The Pakistan domestic cricket season is slated to begin with the Hanif Mohammad Trophy.

According to details, the Hanif Mohammad Trophy is scheduled to take place from August 29 to September 25. The matches will be take place in South Punjab – Bahawalpur, Multan and Rahim Yar Khan.

Meanwhile, the rest of the matches will also be held in Karachi.  It has been reported that 12 teams would feature in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy, where 30 non-first class matches would take place. In the tournament, 12 regional teams would be divided in two groups. The top two teams of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy would feature in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

 

Each team will play five matches in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy. AJK, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Karachi Whites, Lahore Blues and Quetta Region have been included in Group A of the tournament. Dera Murad Jamali, FATA, Karachi Blues, Larkana, Multan and Rawalpindi Region have been included in Group B.

The domestic session’s first tournament is named after the former Pakistan batting legend, Hanif Mohammad. Hanif had represented Pakistan in 55 Tests and compiled 3,915. He became the first Pakistani batter to score a triple century in the red-ball format.

Hanif was inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame back in 2020.
