Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has completed 350 international wickets during the first ODI against the West Indies at Tarouba.
On Friday, Shaheen was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan with 4/51 in eight overs, with an economy rate of 6.37. His wicket tally included Brandon King, skipper Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Joseph.
His performance saw him claim 131 wickets in 65 ODIs, surpassing Rashid Khan’s 128 to become the highest wicket-taker at this milestone.
Choosing to field, Pakistan restricted the hosts to 280, despite half-centuries from Evin Lewis, Roston Chase, and captain Shai Hope.
Pakistan’s chase was anchored by Hasan Nawaz’s unbeaten 63, sealed with a six and a boundary in the penultimate over, guiding them to 284/5 in 48.5 overs for a five-wicket victory. Captain Mohammad Rizwan chipped in with a steady 53.
Naseem Shah supported with 3/55. West Indies’ Hope lamented missed opportunities, citing the toss and a lack of runs in the middle overs. “We fought, but we’re a step behind,” he said. Pakistan, fresh off a 2-1 T20 series win in Florida, now lead the three-match ODI series. The second and third ODIs are set for Sunday and Tuesday at the same venue, promising more intense battles.
