PCB denies reports of Rizwan, Shan Masood losing captaincy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly refuted media reports suggesting major leadership changes in the national team, calling them “baseless and unfounded.”

In an official statement, the PCB clarified that there was no truth in claims of appointing Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan’s new ODI captain in place of Mohammad Rizwan.

Similarly, the board dismissed reports that Saud Shakeel would be named Test captain, replacing Shan Masood.

The PCB further confirmed that the matter was never considered by the selection committee, nor has any player’s central contract category been altered.

Earlier reports hinted at leadership shake-up

Earlier, media outlets reported that the board was weighing a shift in captaincy roles across formats, with consultations allegedly held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

According to those reports, Salman Agha was tipped to take over ODI leadership, while Saud Shakeel was seen as a frontrunner for the Test role.

Insiders had even suggested that Saud could see his central contract upgraded to Category B once appointed captain, with discussions said to focus on long-term leadership stability ahead of future tours.
