Nawaz directs PM Shehbaz, CM Maryam to expedite flood relief efforts in Punjab

MURREE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday called on PML-N President Nawaz Sharif in Murree to deliberate on key political, constitutional matters and the worsening flood situation across the country.

According to sources, the top PML-N leadership exchanged views on a range of issues, including the devastating floods and key upcoming appointment of Chief Election Commissioner.

Expressing deep concern over the severe flood situation in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nawaz Sharif directed the prime minister and chief minister to focus their full attention on relief efforts.

The elder Sharif directed the ministers and lawmakers to immediately return to their constituencies and take part in the ongoing aid and rescue operation.

According to insiders, the meeting also discussed the imposition of a flood emergency in affected areas and the cancellation of leave for administrative staff to ensure their presence on the ground for relief and rescue work.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif issued immediate orders for urgent measures in response to the flood crisis in Punjab.

Moreover, CM Maryam Nawaz also briefed the participants about her recent Japan visit.

Earlier, Maryam Nawaz directly reached Murree late night from Japan, where Nawaz Sharif had already been staying.
