Flood threat ends, conditions improving with rehabilitation efforts underway by Centre, provinces

Federal Minister for Water Resources Mueen Wattoo has said that floods’ threat has ended and conditions are improving.

In a statement, Wattoo said that the federal and provincial governments were jointly working on rehabilitation efforts with restoration of infrastructure being the top priority.

“Measures are underway to compensate for losses to agricultural land and crops,” the minister noted, adding that efforts were being made on an effective flood management system to reduce losses in the future.

    Dengue cases rise in Punjab in aftermath of floods

    Dengue cases continue to increase in Punjab, including its capital Lahore, with 43 more patients reported in the last 12 hours, said Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir.

    As per the minister, 21 dengue cases were reported in Rawalpindi, 11 in Lahore, and two each in Multan, Toba Tek Singh. Whereas one patient was reported in Bahawalpur, Attock, Sialkot, CHakwal, Muzaffargarh, Pakpattan and Murree each.

    So far, 1,131 dengue patients have been reported from Punjab this year, he added.

    PM urges IMF to consider impact of floods in upcoming review

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Pakistan was making steady progress towards meeting the various targets and commitments under the IMF programme; however, the impact of the recent floods on Pakistan’s economy must be factored into the IMF’s review.

    Wapda reports river flows, reservoir levels across major sites

    The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) on Tuesday reported updated water inflows, outflows and reservoir levels across major rivers and barrages.

    At Tarbela, inflow was recorded at 92,100 cusecs and outflow at 91,700 cusecs. Mangla saw inflow at 17,100 cusecs and outflow at 9,000 cusecs. At Chashma Barrage, inflow stood at 138,300 cusecs against an outflow of 132,200 cusecs.

    On River Chenab at Head Marala, inflow was 37,200 cusecs while outflow was 24,800 cusecs. River Kabul at Nowshera reported both inflow and outflow at 15,700 cusecs.

    Tarbela reservoir’s water level was 1,550.00 feet with live storage of 5.728 million acre-feet (MAF). Mangla’s level stood at 1,240.15 feet with 7.126 MAF storage, while Chashma recorded 649.00 feet with 0.311 MAF storage.

    The combined live storage in Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma reservoirs was reported at 13.165 MAF, Wapda said.
