“An agreement must be reached with Hamas by Sunday Evening at SIX (6) pm, Washington, D.C. time,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Every Country has signed on! If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas.”
Mass protests, strikes in Italy for Gaza
Hundreds of thousands of people protested across Italy during a large-scale strike over the treatment of the Gaza aid flotilla and far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s cautious stance on the conflict.
Demonstrators condemned Rome’s criticism of the Global Sumud Flotilla that sailed to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza, where the United Nations has reported famine conditions after nearly two years of war.
Many also demanded more from Meloni, who has faced criticism for not speaking out more strongly on the situation in Gaza or recognising the State of Palestine.
The strike saw trains cancelled or delayed, some schools closed, and even some prisoners downing tools.
At least 80,000 people marched in Rome, according to police. Organisers put the number at 300,000.
Erdogan tells Trump he welcomes peace efforts, but Israel must stop attacks for their success
President Tayyip Erdogan told US counterpart Donald Trump in a phone call that Turkey welcomed efforts to reach peace in the region, but that Israel must stop its attacks for efforts to be successful, the Turkish presidency said.
“Erdogan emphasised that Turkey had increased its diplomatic contacts for peace, that it would continue to support (Trump’s) vision for global peace, and that Israel stopping its attacks is important for the success of initiatives aimed at achieving peace in the region,” it said.
Israel arrests over 20 journalists on Gaza flotilla: media watchdog
Reporters Without Borders has condemned Israel’s arrest of “more than 20 foreign journalists” after Israeli forces intercepted a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, calling for their immediate release.
“Arresting journalists and preventing them from doing their work is a serious violation of the right to inform and be informed,” said Martin Roux, head of RSF’s crisis desk.
“RSF condemns the illegal arrest of the news professionals who were on board these ships to cover a humanitarian operation of unprecedented scale,” said Roux.
Among some 20 journalists on board were reporters from Spain’s El Pais, Qatar’s Al Jazeera and Italy’s public broadcaster RAI.
The media organisations have had “no news of their journalists” since arrests began on Wednesday evening, said RSF.
