A major development has taken place in the Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case, as the Crime Control Department (CCD) has sought to lead the investigation into the case from the Lahore capital city police officer (CCPO).
At the same time, a special team of Lahore police has left for Dubai to bring back the prime suspect, Khawaja Tareef Gulshan alias Teefi Butt, who was arrested with the help of Interpol.
JIT investigating high-profile case
According to officials, a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed by Lahore police is probing the murder case. The case of Ameer Balaj Tipu’s killing was registered at Chuhng Police Station, and both Teefi Butt and Aqeel Butt alias Gogi Butt have been named as accused.
Sources confirmed that once extradited, Teefi Butt will be handed over to the JIT for further questioning and legal proceedings.
Gogi Butt on bail; Teefi Butt arrested
While Aqeel Butt alias Gogi Butt has secured bail from the court, Teefi Butt was a declared accused who went into hiding after the murder nearly 18 months ago. His arrest in Dubai marks a significant breakthrough for Lahore Police.
Officials revealed that Teefi Butt was detained last night through Interpol coordination and is now awaiting transfer back to Pakistan.
Police action and future steps
A special team of Lahore police has departed for Dubai to complete extradition procedures. Once in Lahore, Teefi Butt will be directly transferred into the custody of the Joint Investigation Team for interrogation.
Earlier today, it had been reported that Teefi Butt had been arrested in Dubai. Police confirmed that he was apprehended with the assistance of Interpol and will soon be transferred to Pakistan.
