SJC issues gazette notification of amended judges’ code of conduct

The Supreme Judicial Council has issued a gazette notification formally announcing amendments to the Judges’ Code of Conduct, it was reported on Thursday.

According to the official statement, the notification was released in accordance with the decisions taken at the Council’s meeting held on October 18.

The Council explained that the purpose of the latest revisions was primarily to correct typographical errors found in the original 1965 text.

The amendments also include a reordering of the first paragraph of Article VI, the addition of three new provisions based on seven resolutions passed in 2003, and a new subsection accompanying Article V.

The Council stated that the Judges’ Code of Conduct embodies its continued commitment to maintaining the highest standards of judicial integrity, independence, and accountability.

It added that the reforms reaffirm the judiciary’s unwavering resolve to ensure the dispensation of justice without fear, favour, or prejudice.

Following its gazette publication, the amended Code of Conduct has now been made available to the public.
