Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Friday performed the groundbreaking of the Daanish School in Chitral, reaffirming his government’s commitment to ensuring quality education and socio-economic uplift in the remote and underdeveloped areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister lauded the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as brave, patriotic, and instrumental in Pakistan’s progress and security. He said his elder brother, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, had always shown special commitment to the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chitral.
Highlighting the vision behind Daanish Schools, Shehbaz Sharif said these institutions aim to provide world-class education to children from less privileged backgrounds, adding that they are “equivalent to Aitchison College in terms of quality and facilities but meant for the children of common people.” The schools, he said, offer free boarding, education, sports, and modern amenities.
Expressing confidence in the Chitral project, he said the Daanish School Chitral would soon set a new benchmark for excellence in education across Pakistan.
The prime minister also announced a series of new development projects for Chitral, including the establishment of a gas plant, a hospital, and a university in Upper Chitral. He directed the authorities to resolve the electricity tariff issue in the region on a priority basis.
Shehbaz Sharif informed that the 153-kilometre Chitral–Shandur Road was already under construction and would be completed next year, while the 46-kilometre Chitral–Buni Road would be completed by May. He added that the 7-kilometre Lawari Tunnel project had already been completed.
The prime minister reiterated his commitment to eliminating terrorism and promoting peace, commending the armed forces for their sacrifices and professionalism under the leadership of Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir and other services chiefs.
He also mentioned a historic diplomatic moment, acknowledging former U.S. President Donald Trump’s intervention in defusing tensions between Pakistan and India, which he said prevented a potential escalation.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engr. Amir Muqam praised the prime minister’s leadership, saying that under Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s economy is moving in the right direction. He lauded his administrative and diplomatic efforts for strengthening the country’s global image.
