Lahore court approves three-day remand of NCCIA officials in bribery case

LAHORE: A court has issued a written order regarding the physical remand of six officers from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) who were arrested on bribery charges.

The two-page order, released by Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo, states that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requested an extension of the suspects’ physical remand. The prosecutor informed the court that a separate inquiry into the officers’ assets beyond known income had also been initiated.

According to the decision, the FIA’s counsel told the court that although the FIR mentioned Rs9 million, the total recovery so far exceeds Rs42 million.

The prosecution argued that the accused are “clever and skilled individuals,” requiring an “unusual investigation method” due to the complex nature of the case.

The prosecutor further said this is a white-collar crime and that preliminary inquiries have confirmed the officers’ involvement in bribery through various means.

The court noted that the recovery of a large sum of money during the previous three-day remand is a significant development. Therefore, the suspects could not be discharged at this stage.

Accepting the FIA’s request, the court approved a further three-day physical remand and directed that the accused be presented again on November 3.

According to the FIA, a total of Rs42.5 million has been recovered so far, including Rs 11.2 million from one of the accused, Sarfraz Chaudhry.

The case against the six suspects was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
