Maulana Fazl asks TLP leadership to pursue peace, not violence

A delegation of the banned religious-political party, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad to discuss the prevailing political crisis, it was reported on Tuesday.

According to the channel, a three-member delegation of the proscribed TLP held a meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, during which the current political circumstances were discussed in detail.

The party sources said JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman advised the TLP representatives to remain peaceful and avoid violent activities.

Sources said the JUI-F head urged the TLP delegation to choose the path of peace rather than violence, warning that if they continued to resort to aggression, the public would distance itself from them.

In response, the TLP representatives assured JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman that they would give full consideration to his guidance.

On October 23, 2025, the federal government formally approved the imposition of a ban on the TLP and directed the Interior Ministry to complete all legal formalities.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, following a recommendation from the Punjab government.

According to the chargesheet, TLP leaders were accused of delivering hate speeches, promoting sectarianism, and inciting violence against minorities.

The party was also blamed for damaging public property during protests and demonstrations.

TLP, a banned far-right Islamist populist party, was founded by Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi in August 2015, who served as its first leader.

The party is currently headed by Saad Hussain Rizvi. In the 2024 general election, TLP emerged as the fourth-largest party in Pakistan, securing nearly 2.9 million votes nationwide.

TLP also became the third-largest political force in Punjab with around 2.5 million votes and won a seat from PP-55 Narowal-II in the Punjab Provincial Assembly.

Following the government’s decision to outlaw the party, Khurram Shahzad, a TLP ticket holder from NA-125, announced on October 28 that he was parting ways with the group.

In a video statement, Shahzad said he was leaving the TLP due to personal reasons and would not take part in any future activities of the organization.
