PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan calls on Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq and told him that leader of the opposition was their legal right as per their requisition, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Talking to media in parliament house Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said that the Leader of the Opposition is the right of those who sit on the opposition benches. He said, “due to the large number of members, PTI should have a Leader of the Opposition after the signatures of 74 members.”
The Speaker told “us that the matter of the Leader of the Opposition was in court”, Gohar explained.
Gohar said NA Speaker said that a notice had come from the Supreme Court, adding that as soon as NA received the copy from the Supreme Court, progress will be made on it.
Ayaz Sadiq assured PTI that, “we will try to get the copy from the Supreme Court and deliver it to the Speaker’s office”. He hoped that on Monday opposition leader’s appointment process will be completed.
Gohar said that “Article 243 is related to Security Forces and PTI will talk only when the draft related to Article 243 comes out”. He said NFC award had guaranteed that the share of the provinces would not be less than the previous share.
PTI chairman said that NFC award had a guarantee that it would not weaken the federation but strengthen it. The constitution was different during Ayub Khan’s era, where a person could sit on two seats in the assembly. He said, “amendment to the constitution should be by consensus, not by majority, so you can make whatever decisions you want”. He said the constitution was important because it is a document of the entire nation.
