Punjab Govt approves major hike in traffic fines to curb violations

LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved the introduction of a new traffic licence points system aimed at controlling traffic violations across the province.

According to details, driving licenses will be suspended and heavy fines will be imposed for traffic violations, as the provincial cabinet has approved the summary submitted by the Traffic Police.

According to the summary, 25 different types of traffic violations will now carry a minimum fine of Rs. 2,000, while the maximum fine can reach up to Rs. 20,000. In addition, 2 to 4 points will be deducted for each violation. If a driver accumulates 20 penalty points within a year, his license will be suspended for a period of two months to one year.

Under the new rules, over-speeding will carry a fine ranging from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 20,000, along with a 4-point deduction. Signal violations will incur fines between Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 15,000, with 4 points deduction.

Over-loading will result in fines from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 15,000, and a 4-point deduction. One-way violations will also carry fines of Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 15,000, along with 4 penalty points.

Rash driving will be fined between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 15,000, with a 4-point deduction. Pressure horn use will result in fines from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 10,000, and a 2-point deduction.

These stricter measures aim to improve road safety and enforce compliance with traffic regulations across the province.
