IHC orders FIA to form JIT over abduction of woman, daughters; declares it a model case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has expressed dissatisfaction over police investigations into the alleged abduction of a woman and her young daughters from Lahore and directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

According to the written order by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, the woman and her children were unlawfully detained in connection with a financial dispute involving former PIA CEO Musharraf Rasool, Waqas Ahmad, and Sohail Aleem.

The court, showing displeasure over the police’s progress in cases registered in Islamabad against Waqas Ahmad and Sohail Aleem, ordered the FIA Director General to establish a JIT to conduct an independent investigation.

The IHC directed that the JIT must examine all aspects of the cases and review the role of the investigating officers and police personnel allegedly involved in the abduction and related crimes.

Justice Kayani also instructed the federal interior secretary to appoint an officer of the rank equivalent to Director (Crimes) and to make the case of the abducted woman and her three minor children a “model case.”

The court noted that the woman, Sana, and her three young daughters were abducted from Lahore without any official report to or involvement of the city police. It further directed the federal interior secretary to issue necessary instructions to the Punjab IGP, Punjab home secretary, and the provincial government.

The Punjab government has been ordered to initiate its own inquiry, taking into account CCTV footage from September 17, 2025, which reportedly shows the woman and her children being abducted in Lahore.
