Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the Afghan soil is being used for terror attacks against Pakistan, it was reported on Wednesday.
In an interview with the 24News TV channel, the governor has said that peace cannot not be restored in the restive areas of the province until and unless there are intelligence-based operations. “We should support the federal government and the security forces,” he added.
He has lamented that terrorists have now started targeting innocent children.
The governor has insisted that the Afghan Taliban are not interested in talks at all. “There is no alternative except to deal with militants with an iron hand,” he opined.
The tribal areas of Pakistan have witnessed an increase in incidents of terrorism during the last couple of years.
And despite the fact that Pakistan has repeatedly asked the Taliban government in Afghanistan to rein in the TTP militants, claiming that they operate from the Afghan soil, the situation instead of improving has deteriorated.
On Monday, militants stormed WANA Cadet College, while the very next day on Tuesday, a suicide bomber detonated himself outside the Judicial Complex in Islamabad, killing 12 people and injuring close to two dozen.
The situation has prompted Minister of Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif to threaten the Taliban with consequences in case it failed to control the militants.
Meanwhile, Pak-Afghan talks at Doha, Qatar and then in Istanbul have failed to produce desired results.
