LAHORE: Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam has equaled an unwanted record held by India’s Virat Kohli.
In the first match of the ODI home series against Sri Lanka, Babar Azam scored 29 runs before being clean bowled by Hasaranga.
With this dismissal, he has equaled Kohli’s unwanted record of going 83 innings without scoring a century in international cricket.
Babar’s last international century came during the 2023 Asia Cup, where he scored a brilliant hundred against Nepal. Virat Kohli, too, had gone 83 innings without a century before breaking his drought in 2023.
In this context, the current Sri Lankan head coach and former captain, Sanath Jayasuriya, holds the record for the longest gap, having scored a century after 88 innings.
Additionally, former West Indian cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul also went through a similar phase in his career, scoring a century after 78 innings.
