Pakistan fined 20% for slow over rate against Sri Lanka

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on the Pakistan cricket team for maintaining a slow over rate during their recent match against Sri Lanka.

According to the ICC, Pakistan failed to bowl the required number of overs within the stipulated time, leading to a penalty of 20% of the players’ match fees.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has acknowledged the ICC’s decision and accepted the fine without protest. He emphasized that the team is committed to improving its pace in future matches and ensuring that such lapses do not occur again.

Slow over rates are taken seriously in international cricket as they can disrupt the flow of the game and affect the scheduling of matches.

The ICC has a strict policy to ensure that teams adhere to the expected over rate, and fines are a common method of enforcing compliance.

On Tuesday, Salman Agha led Pakistan to a thrilling six-run victory against Sri Lanka in the first One-Day International at Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Wanindu Hasaranga’s valiant all-round effort proved insufficient as Pakistan held their nerve to reach 299 for five in their 50 overs, restricting Sri Lanka to 293 for nine.
