Missing Indian Sikh pilgrim converts to Islam, marries Pakistani man

LAHORE: A Sikh woman, part of a religious pilgrimage from India to Pakistan to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, has converted to Islam and married a Pakistani citizen.

The woman, identified as 48-year-old Sarbjit Kaur, embraced Islam and adopted the name Noor after marrying 49-year-old Nasir Hussain, a resident of Farooqabad, Sheikhupura.

The marriage took place on November 5, with a dowry of 10,000 Pakistani rupees, which has already been paid.

Sarbjit Kaur had arrived in Pakistan with Indian Sikh pilgrims on November 4, but when the group was scheduled to return to India on November 13, she was absent.

Her visa had expired on the same day, leading authorities to search for her as a missing person.

Later, it was revealed that Sarbjit Kaur had converted to Islam and married Nasir Hussain, thus becoming a Pakistani citizen.
