Lahore ranks among world’s most polluted cities as smog crisis deepens

LAHORE: Air pollution across Punjab has intensified, with Lahore once again ranking among the world’s most polluted cities, according to an international environmental monitoring website.

The provincial capital recorded an alarming Air Quality Index (AQI) of 324, placing it in the “hazardous” category and posing serious health risks for millions of residents.

The situation is equally severe in other major Punjab cities. Faisalabad registered the highest pollution levels in the province with its AQI reaching 400, indicating extremely toxic air conditions. Gujranwala followed with an AQI of 300, while Multan recorded 265, all significantly above safe limits defined by global health standards.

Experts warn that the dangerously high concentration of smog could lead to a rise in respiratory illnesses, eye irritation, and cardiovascular issues. Health professionals strongly advise citizens to wear protective masks, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and increase the use of air purifiers inside homes to reduce exposure.

With air quality deteriorating across the region, authorities are urging the public to take precautionary measures as Punjab continues to battle one of its worst pollution spells of the season.
