Russia shows readiness to mediate disputes among Pakistan, India, Afghanistan

Russia has offered to mediate disputes between Pakistan, India and Afghanistan for lasting peace in the region, it was reported on Thursday.

Addressing a session of the Islamabad Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, the country’s ambassador to Pakistan Albert Khorev has said that Russia views Pakistan as an important regional partner and that the latter has importance under the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Greater Eurasian Partnership Vision.

He has further said that Russia is deeply concerned about regional stability, especially the situation in Afghanistan. “Foreign powers stoke tensions in South Asian nations,” Khorev has said, adding that Russia supports steps taken against terrorism.

He has also emphasized that disputes between neighboring countries can best be resolved by regional parties.

The Russian ambassador has also expressed his commitment to continue cooperation with Pakistan for economic and social development.

It should be noted that this statement has come at a time when Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, after which further warming of relations between Pakistan and Russia is expected.
