FBR launches audits of doctors, beauty parlours, paint sector

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday decided to intensify audits across multiple sectors to widen the tax net, in line with IMF directives.

Doctors charging high fees in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, along with beauty parlors and the paint industry, have come under the FBR’s scrutiny.

According to sources, the FBR has begun issuing notices to top-earning doctors in major cities, starting with an initial batch of 250 practitioners. These audits aim to bring professionals who charge exorbitant fees under proper tax compliance.

In addition, luxury beauty parlors and businesses selling high-end cosmetics will also be included in the tax net. The move seeks to capture previously untaxed income and ensure broader revenue generation.

Audit expansion in paint and other industries

The FBR is also focusing on private paint companies suspected of tax evasion. Authorities have confirmed that this sector, along with other identified service industries, will face thorough audits in coming months.

To strengthen the process, the FBR has engaged the services of 600 private auditors and plans to hire an additional 200 soon. Ultimately, around 2,000 private auditors will be onboarded to assist in audits across various sectors.

FBR sources emphasized that private auditors will be bound by strict confidentiality agreements to protect taxpayer information. The measures aim to ensure transparency while maintaining professional discretion.
