Reports from Pakistani cyber-security analysts have disclosed that social media accounts linked to Afghan state institutions have been repurposed to run coordinated anti-Pakistan propaganda campaigns.
According to their findings, the official handle of the Afghan State Newspapers Department was quietly renamed as “Afghan Defence”, effectively transforming it from a state information channel into a direct propaganda outlet.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the report claims that the account, once limited to disseminating official announcements, now appears to be engaged in what it calls a “digital operation” targeting Pakistan.
Cyber specialists assert that posts hinting at possible attacks on Islamabad were traced to handlers operating the same state-linked platforms.
The analysis further suggests that the interim Afghan government’s official X (formerly Twitter) account has shifted away from routine communication and is now being used to circulate provocative narratives.
Some posts cited in the report carried explicit threats, including references to explosions in Islamabad.
Authorities in Pakistan have expressed concern over what they view as a growing information campaign emerging from accounts bearing state identifiers of the Afghan Taliban interim administration.
