ISLAMABAD: An organised network of Afghan nationals involved in terrorism in Pakistan has been exposed after the arrest and confession of an Afghan suspect in Talagang, authorities said on Monday.
The detained militant, identified as Qasim alias Hasan, revealed in his statement that he belongs to the Diloozi tribe and hails from Gardez province in Afghanistan. He said he moved to Lakki Marwat, Pakistan, with his family around ten years ago, where they grew up, worked, and lived among the local community.
Qasim disclosed that he first met Taliban commander Armani in 2025 in Sarha Darga. “Commander Armani invited me to join jihad, and I became part of the group. I spent around 20 days with the organisation, where he directed me to carry out a suicide mission,” the suspect confessed.
He further revealed that Commander Armani tasked him and another militant named Farooq to conduct reconnaissance of a military fort in Tajori for a suicide attack. However, they were unable to execute the plan due to the absence of a suitable opportunity.
Qasim admitted that he later rejoined the organisation and was instructed to recruit new members. “I handed over five individuals to Commander Armani and received Rs10,000 for each recruit,” he said.
He added that on Armani’s advice, he travelled to Punjab to find more recruits for the group. However, soon after arriving in the province, he was arrested by police.
Authorities say the suspect’s confessional video provides further proof of Afghan soil being used to orchestrate terrorism inside Pakistan. Islamabad has repeatedly presented such evidence to the international community, calling attention to the cross-border threat.
