Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to taking practical steps aimed at strengthening the country’s economic growth through an increase in exports.
He was chairing a series of meetings of private-sector-led–led working groups formed for economic reforms, including a detailed session on tax sector reforms held in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister stated the government holds tax-paying businesses and companies in high regard, adding that strengthening the economy and facilitating business activities will naturally lead to higher tax revenues.
He stressed that long-term reforms were needed to make Pakistan’s business environment more competitive and investment-friendly.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that since day one, his government has been taking concrete steps to boost exports and support sustainable development.
He appreciated the comprehensive proposals presented by private-sector experts and expressed gratitude for their input.
The Prime Minister announced the formation of a committee, to be chaired by the finance minister, which will review the recommendations and convert them into an actionable roadmap.
“The committee will present a plan based on practical measures,” he said.
During the meeting, business community members and investors thanked the Prime Minister for implementing the earlier decision to abolish the Export Development Surcharge.
Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior officials attended the session. Working Group Chairman Shehzad Saleem and other members were also present.
