Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain represented Pakistan at the 179th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Council in Rome, where he raised serious concerns over the ongoing humanitarian and food crisis in Gaza.
During the session, the minister strongly condemned Israel’s continued violations of ceasefire agreements and appealed for an immediate halt to hostilities, urging unhindered access for humanitarian aid to the affected population. He also paid tribute to FAO’s continued operations in Gaza despite severe security threats.
Highlighting Pakistan’s active role within the FAO, Rana Tanveer Hussain noted that the country’s unanimous re-election to the FAO Council for the 2027–2029 term reflects global confidence in Pakistan’s contributions.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting FAO’s upcoming institutional reforms and emphasized the importance of its strategic presence in the FAO Finance Committee, which plays a key role in budgetary and management policies.
“Pakistan will continue to play a positive and constructive role in strengthening FAO’s framework and advancing global food security,” he said, reiterating the country’s support for international cooperation in tackling humanitarian challenges.
