ECP sets December 31 deadline for lawmakers to file asset declarations

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that December 31, 2025, is the final date for Members of Parliament and Provincial Assemblies to submit their statements of assets and liabilities for the financial year 2024–25.

According to the ECP, Section 137 of the Election Act, 2017, makes it mandatory for all lawmakers to file declarations detailing the assets and liabilities of themselves, their spouses, and dependent children. These declarations must be submitted on Form-B to the Commission by the due date.

Section 137 outlines the following requirements:

— Every member of the National Assembly, Senate, and Provincial Assemblies must file their asset declaration for the period ending June 30 each year, no later than December 31.

— On January 1, the ECP will publish the names of lawmakers who failed to submit their returns on time.

— On January 15, the Commission will suspend the memberships of those who still have not filed their declarations, barring them from participating in parliamentary proceedings until compliance.

— If any member is found to have provided false information, the Commission will initiate action for corruption offences within 120 days of the filing date.

The ECP stated that Form-B and accompanying guidelines can be obtained free of cost from its Secretariat in Islamabad, the offices of Provincial Election Commissioners, and the Secretariats of the Senate, National Assembly, and Provincial Assemblies. The form is also available for download on the ECP’s website.
