Justice Aurangzeb elevated; Kamran Malakhel becomes BHC Chief Justice

Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb on Monday took oath as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Islamabad and Balochistan High Court’s acting Chief Justice, Justice Kamran Khan Malakhel, formally took oath as the permanent Chief Justice of the BHC in Quetta.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi administered the oath at a ceremony attended by senior Supreme Court judges, leading lawyers and members of the federal judiciary.

Among those present were Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar, Federal Constitutional Court Judge Justice K K Agha, and Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman.

Supreme Court judges, including Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri and Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, were also in attendance.

On the same day in Quetta, the Balochistan High Court’s acting Chief Justice, Justice Kamran Khan Malakhel, formally took oath as the permanent Chief Justice of the BHC.

Governor Balochistan Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail administered the oath at the Governor’s House, where high court judges, provincial cabinet members and senior officials were present.

The oath-takings follow major judicial appointments approved by President Asif Ali Zardari on December 5 after recommendations from the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP).

Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput has been confirmed as the permanent Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, while Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mulakhel’s elevation as the permanent Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court was also endorsed.

At the federal level, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb’s elevation to the Supreme Court was likewise approved. The appointments were processed through the constitutionally mandated procedure, with the JCP forwarding its recommendations to the president for final confirmation.
