Bugti seeks postponement of Quetta LG elections citing security, weather concerns

Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti Monday filed an appeal with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking postponement of the upcoming local government elections in Quetta, sources said.

According to the appeal, the law-and-order situation in the provincial capital remains critical, while internet services in several areas are down, creating operational challenges for the electoral process.

The chief minister also noted that severe weather conditions have pushed many residents into seasonal migration, affecting voter presence.

The appeal further stated that local government elections in other districts of Balochistan were held three years ago, and only nine months remain before the completion of the current LG bodies’ term.

Meanwhile, ECP officials said arrangements for conducting the Quetta local government elections have been completed.

The printing of ballot papers for the polls also began on Monday, according to Election Commission sources.
