Punjab CM launches technology-led shrimp farming industry

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced launch of technology-led shrimp farming industry under blue economy vision in the province.

In a post uploaded on X platform on Monday, Maryam Nawaz said “Punjab has initiated the breeding of shrimp based on history and technology, aquaculture, and value chain.”

Maryam Nawaz said “After the successful trial and research project for shrimp breeding on 100 acres of land, this industry has now officially begun.”

This important success based on scientific research marks the beginning of a new era in Punjab’s blue economy, the chief minister said and added the project includes hatcheries, aqua malls, processing plants, cold storage, and an integrated transport chain.

She said by March 2026 the government will start shrimp estates spanning 5,300 in Muzaffargarh and Sargodha. “This project has been developed with global research and development and modern aquaculture technologies,” he added.

Maryam Nawaz said assistance has been obtained from world-class experts from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Ecuador, Australia, and Mexico.

The chief minister said the project has officially begun, machinery is present on the site, and teams are working day and night.

“Feasibility study is ongoing for an additional 26,000 acres,” she said and added at the beginning of next year, the government will give final shape to this project for farmers.
