Punjab to establish Film Development Authority

The provincial cabinet has approved the Punjab Film Development Authority Act 2025.

The act is set to be presented in the upcoming session of the Punjab Assembly, marking a significant step toward supporting filmmakers and creative professionals in the province.

The authority will oversee the production of films, dramas, documentaries, and digital content. It will also introduce a comprehensive system for licensing, regulations, and guidelines under the new film policy.

Filmmakers will benefit from streamlined processes for approvals and permits through a one-window operation system, while special incentives will be offered to attract both local and foreign investment in the industry.

Plans also include the development of film studios, a dedicated film city, and post-production facilities to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for creative projects.

To nurture new talent, the authority will establish film schools and training programs, ensuring a skilled workforce for the evolving industry. Additionally, a funding, grants, and subsidy system will be introduced to support filmmakers financially.

The authority will also play a role in promoting Punjab’s culture, tourism, and positive image through cinematic content, while serving as the official body to address complaints and resolve issues related to the film industry.
