- Google has rolled out Gemini 3 Flash, its latest fast-response AI model, aiming to deliver near-instant answers across apps and Search.
The launch follows the debut of Gemini 3 Pro last month and signals a major shift in how users interact with Google’s AI tools.
Google says Gemini 3 Flash has been built “from the ground up for speed,” with performance that feels as quick as a standard Google search for most prompts. As a result, the model is now the default option in the Gemini app.
Users selecting “Fast” or “Thinking” in the app are automatically using Gemini 3 Flash. Meanwhile, Gemini 3 Pro remains available under the “Pro” option.
How Gemini 3 Flash compares to Gemini 3 Pro
According to Google, Gemini 3 Pro is still the best choice for advanced math and coding tasks. However, the company believes Gemini 3 Flash is sufficient for most everyday use cases.
Flash is also more efficient in terms of computing resources, making it easier for Google to scale. Despite this, Google claims the model delivers a major leap in performance over its predecessor.
In benchmark testing, Gemini 3 Flash significantly outperforms Gemini 2.5 Flash. Google says it is on par with OpenAI’s GPT-5.2 in some tests.
Notably, the company claims Gemini 3 Flash even surpasses Gemini 2.5 Pro in certain benchmarks.
All of this comes while offering much faster response times.
Gemini 3 Flash rolls out to Google search
Gemini 3 Flash has also become the default model for Google Search’s AI Mode globally. Google says this upgrade improves how AI Mode understands complex and nuanced questions.
The company adds that users can now expect more thoughtful, well-formatted answers that take multiple constraints into account.
This change is aimed at making AI-powered search more practical for everyday queries.
Gemini 3 Pro is also available in Google Search, but only for users in the United States. To access it, users must select “Thinking with 3 Pro” from the AI Mode model menu.
Google says this option offers deeper assistance for difficult questions, including interactive tools, simulations, and dynamic visual layouts. It is positioned as a premium experience for more complex needs.
US users can also access Nano Banana 3 Pro within Search. This feature allows advanced image creation through the AI Mode interface.
To use it, users must choose “Thinking with 3 Pro” and then select “Create Images Pro.” Google acknowledges the process is complex and hints at simplifying these options in the future.
