179 Afghans entering Balochistan illegally arrested

Security forces have arrested 179 Afghans from different parts of Balochistan who had crossed into the province illegally, it was reported on Tuesday.

Women and children are among those taken into custody.

Cases have been registered against these individuals under the Foreign Act.

Sources in the administration told the 24News TV channel that the Afghans, who had entered Pakistan, wanted to go to Iran illegally.

It is worth-mentioning here that only recently Pakistan has expelled millions of Afghans, including those who had been living in the country for the last three to four decades, citing security concerns.

The government’s argument is that these Afghans are involved in suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism.

It was in October 2023 when the government announced a plan to deport foreign nationals who either did not have valid visas or had overstayed their visa for more than one year.

The mass deportations primarily affected those Afghans who had no legal documents to be in Pakistan.

According to the United Nations, there were an estimated 3.8 million Afghans in Pakistan at the time the deportation order was announced, while Pakistani authorities believed the number to be as high as 4.4 million.

Afghans accounted for 98% of the foreign nationals in Pakistan.

Pakistan has repatriated a total of 1.7 million Afghans, from 15 September, 2023 to 29 November 2025.
