Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Thursday that members of minority communities had played an important role in the country’s development.
Addressing a ceremony held in Lahore to celebrate Christmas, she said that for the first time in the history of the province, minority cards were issued. “Minorities have as much right on the country’s natural resources as the majority has,” she added.
The chief minister said that Pakistan’s largest Christmas tree had been installed at Lahore’s Liberty Chowk. “The provincial government is providing equal opportunities to minorities in education, health and other sectors.”
She further said that she had learnt respect for minorities from Islam.
CM Maryam said that neither Sikhs were safe in India nor Muslims.
