The Azad Jammu and Kashmir president has appointed Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry as a permanent judge of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court on the advice of the Chairman of the Kashmir Council, officials confirmed on Friday.
The appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Interim Constitution of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, under which a mandatory consultation was also held with the Chief Justice of AJK, Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan, before final approval.
Before his elevation to the Supreme Court bench, Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry had been serving in the Azad Kashmir government as Custodian of Evacuee Property.
Legal and political circles in Muzaffarabad have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the appointment would contribute to strengthening the judicial system and ensuring effective dispensation of justice in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The notification of his appointment has formally taken effect, making Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry a permanent member of the AJK Supreme Court.
